For our ninth employee spotlight, meet Christine Carruthers. Let’s dive in and learn more about her.
What do you do at our company?
I spend my days recruiting, training, coaching, counselling, building team dynamics, supporting professional relationships basically in general I talk A LOT.
What has been your favourite project so far?
I am not directly involved with landscaping projects. My projects are aimed at celebrating individual and team success. Developing ways to recognize all the hard work that is completed out in the field through out the year.
What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
Besides my 2.5 km commute?! What motivates me on a day to day basis is a pretty simple concept, I am fortunate enough to have found a work place that I enjoy being at 5 days a week, a profession that provides daily challenges and a career that makes me happy.
What’s something most people don’t know about you?
Nothing comes to mind. I’m an open book you can get from a library, with chapters upon chapters of tales that I share with all those around me. Building relationships is all about bonding and I believe we bond though story telling.
How do you balance your career and your family/personal life?
I learned years ago the importance of the Work-Life Balance Triangle. It’s not easy, it takes a conscious effort to balance myself, relationships, and career but how I tackle this is by managing my time and planning a head.
What advice would you give to other women in the industry?
The advice I would give women would be the same I’d give to anyone starting a career in the landscaping industry. This is a very rewarding career that can lead to numerous opportunities but you have to be willing to invest the time it takes to learn the trade and build leadership skills that are fundamental to obtaining success.
What does a typical day of work look like for you?
As a HR Manager I have a lot of variety in my day. A combination of office and field duties that always involve interacting with employees, clients and the general public.
What are three words you would use to describe Clintar?
Professional, Leader, Quality
What do you find most rewarding/challenging about your role?
Helping to recruit, train and build a team of employees who find their own individual successes as a part of the Clintar Family.
If given the chance, who would you be for a day?
It is a difficult question to answer but if I had to choose, I’d be Michelle Visage. “Girl you better work”.
If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
Queen Elizabeth ll. If you haven’t watched the Crown on Netflix add it to your list. The series really told the story of one very exceptional lady who I now truly respect and admire.
What would you like to be famous for?
Famous isn’t something that I have ever wanted to be so its difficult to say but if I were to be famous, I would want to be known as a kind, giving and happy person.
What inspires/motivates you?
Coaching and teaching others.
