For our seventh employee spotlight, meet Elina Shikhverdieva. Let’s dive in and learn more about her.

What do you do at our company?
I started as a Marketing & Communications Coordinator at the Head Office and later was promoted to my current position, Manager & Communications Manager. I oversee all internal communication and distribute it to Clintar franchises across Canada. One of the most important factors for me is to collaborate with all departments in order to optimize internal and external communication. Also, I work closely with our sales department and manage other marketing activities.

What has been your favourite project so far?
There are many, but I want to highlight the annual newsletter magazine. It’s an editorial which includes all main events of the year, achievements and yearly overviews of all departments. This project also ties in with my first profession, Graphic Design that I dearly cherish.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
My goals and dreams. I’m a curious individual and I always look forward to learning something new every day.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I come from a small republic of Dagestan (translates as “land of the mountains”), Russia which is surrounded by the famous Caucasus mountains and the Caspian Sea. The republic is also famous for its ethnic diversity and a home to more than 30 languages.

How do you balance your career and your family/personal life?
I have a unique ability to switch from household chores to a working mode at the snap of a finger and vice versa. I prioritize my tasks in life and it helps me stay organized.

What advice would you give to other women in the industry?
Don’t let yourself think that you don’t deserve what other successful people have, the only difference between you and them is that they started earlier.

What does a typical day of work look like for you?
The first thing that I do in the morning is check my e-mails to identify anything that’s necessary and create a to do list for the day (coupled with a delicious coffee). As a marketing manager, you constantly have to be aware of what’s going on at the head office, the franchises and on a national perspective. I check LinkedIn feed on a daily basis to ensure I’m up to date with the latest news in the industry. Then I carry on with my tasks such as providing support to colleagues and franchises, working on the internal newsletters, monitoring social media and more.

What are three words you would use to describe Clintar?
Teamwork, support, strong brand.

What do you find most rewarding/challenging about your role?
A reward to me means achieving my goals, be it a professional one or a personal one. As for any human being, there are barriers and challenges on the way to success, but I won’t tell you about mine. 😊

If given the chance, who would you be for a day?
I would stay me, “You were born an original. Try not to become someone’s copy.”

If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
There are two. First one is Mother Teresa, to have at least a 2-minute conversation with her. I read, people who were fortunate enough to meet her – changed their lives completely. Second one is Jane Austen, she was ahead of her time and her storytelling skills greatly inspired me.

What would you like to be famous for?
I don’t want to be famous at all because it would mean that I’m no more.

What inspires/motivates you?
I’m a versatile person, and many things in life inspire me. I’m inspired by the people that surround me, by the country where I live in and by the incredible nature around us.

We hope you enjoyed learning about Elina Shikhverdieva! We can’t wait to connect you to more of our wonderful team – so stay tuned.
