Sara Tait - Female Employee Spotlight of August
Employee name: Sara Tait, Brampton
Role at company: Crew Leader
Direct quote from the employee: "Either you run the day, or the day runs you."
Every day I go into work looking at it as another day to improve myself and to do better than I did yesterday.
What do you do at our company?
I am a crew leader for grass maintenance at Clintar, I currently work on the city of Brampton contract.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Honestly, I feel every day is a new project for me, I set myself goals weekly. My crew has had a couple records held at Clintar Brampton for most sectors and small sites cut in one day, so that's definitely a project I set myself to try to beat every season.
What's something most people don't know about you?
I am a huge Lego fanatic, I do enjoy building and collecting different Lego sets.
How do you balance your career and your family/personal life?
I try to make sure most weekends I do something new or different than usual. I have also been travelling a lot the past year, so making sure I make as much time as I can for family and friends during holidays.
What advice would you give to other woman in the industry?
The only competition you have is with yourself most of the time and you should always be looking towards your next step in your career, working towards that goal as best as you can.
What does a typical day of work look like for you?
A typical day at work for me is getting there before my other crew members, checking with my city supervisor for what parks we are routed for throughout the day. Then I will set my truck and trailer up with machines and equipment needed, also making sure everything is in working condition while waiting for my other crew members to arrive so we can start our day.
What are three words you would use to describe Clintar?
Supportive, progressive, and challenging.
What do you find most rewarding/challenging about your role?
It's rewarding to do tangible psychical labor that allows you to measure your own skills and watch them steady progress over time.
What I find most challenging in a crew leader position is to balance workplace camaraderie with authority. You want to have fun with your crew and enjoy your workday, but you also still have to keep productivity in check.
If given a chance, who would you be for a day?
I never have really thought about this answer before, but I would like to say my dad, he hasn't been in the best health the past couple of years since being diagnosed with Parkinson's. So, I would love to be able to be him for a day just so I was able to take a little bit of pain away from him for at least a day that he's been feeling these past couple years.
If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be and why?
I would have to say I would love to interview Naomi Parker. She worked on an aircraft assembly during World War 2, and I would love to know about her experience as a woman working this role especially in those times, also would love to ask about her famous photo/poster, Rosie the Riveter “We can do it!”.
What would you like to be famous for?
I don't really want to be famous, my real goal is to run a successful business so I can quietly put back into my community.
What inspires/motivates you?
My motivation is to live truly free and autonomous life, financial/social freedom, etc. I want to be unbound and be my own boss.
